additions | magalieskruin

Location: Magalieskruin, Pretoria

Completion Date: May 2024

Project Type: New additions to an existing home.

Project Description:

  • Client Requirements: The client wanted a swimming pool and a stoep at the front of the home- on both floors. The client also wanted the entire structure of the stoep and swimming pool to be high enough in order for him to safely park his caravan. Before the new additions, there had only been a corrugated roof carport.

  • Unique Features: The home is built on the slope of the Magaliesberg, thus the project required complex planning and logistics to move building materials up to the site.  Rock had to be broken and chipped away in order to start building the reinforced structure and its columns. Extra reinforcing steel ensures the concrete slab will stay solid including several supporting columns. A 38m concrete pump was used to pump several tons of concrete for the slabs- the pump was visible all the way from Kruin Sakesentrum. After the concrete has been left to set, the further construction work took place. Building materials were transported to the top by the use of a conveyor belt and motorized dumpers moved the materials from the truck to the conveyor belt- saving a lot of time and energy.

  • Key Highlights:
    • Gorgeous views can be enjoyed from the new stoep- on a clear day one can see all the way from Pretoria West to Mamelodi, and even the Waterberge if you look closely. All of these stunning views can be enjoyed whilst relaxing in the pool.

    • The main slab/stoep area has an indoor section with a built-in braai.

    • The clearance between the slab and the paving ensures an adequate space is available for the client to park his caravan, and due to the property being on the Magaliesberg slope, the driveway was at an incline- we removed all paving, revised and created a better and friendlier driveway incline, making it much easier for the client to enter his property.

Project Outcome:

  • Overall Impact: The new addition has not only increased the overall monetary value of the home, but it has also significantly increased the esthetic value. The client has not only more than adequate space to safely park his vehicles and caravan, but he is also able to entertain guests on his new stoep and braai indoors. The client can also enjoy gorgeous views over the local and extended areas from the comfort of his home.

Client Feedback: The client is very satisfied with the increase of space and complete transformation of the property.
