Project Description:

• Client Requirements: The client required us to build him a new 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom home on an existing property.

• Unique Features: Excellent insulation built into the home, a very spacious and modern interior look by use of high ceilings and exposed roof trusses and complimentary interior finishes such as granite countertops and built-in cupboards. The home’s electrical supply is solar ready and fitted with a point to connect a generator during power outages.

• Key Highlights:
• Interior- 25mm polystyrene laid under the floors, built into the western wall and used 50mm polystyrene on exposed timber as a ceiling finish providing excellent insulation against the summer heat and cold winters.

• Open plan kitchen and high ceilings with exposed roof trusses gives the home an extra spacious feeling.

• Customized interior lighting- lighting is not fixed into the ceiling, instead customized trays were designed by Gerrit Kamphuis himself and flat 6w LED panel lights were fitted into the trays, suspended from the ceiling.

Project Outcome:

• Overall Impact: Due to excellent insulation, the home is more sustainable due to a lessened need for extra heating or cooling measures- as well as being solar-ready. The home has an abundance of natural light and the high built-in cupboards ensures the client will have plenty of space to store his belongings.

Client Feedback:  After two years, the client has not needed to make use of a heater in the winter- due to the thorough insulation provided. The client is very happy with the modernity of the home and the amount of space available.
